Mother’s Day is nearly here, so it’s time for my annual Best Mother’s Day movie suggestions. Last year the movies centered on, well, what else… Moms. This year I’ve listed five picks that are about love and romance. These are feel-good movies that you can watch after the day’s activities […]

“READ ME FIRST” Books for 2018 1

Yes, I’m a writer, and a soon-to-be-published one! But long before I ever considered becoming an author, I was a self-proclaimed voracious reader. Oh, how I miss those days of curling up on the couch with a cup of tea and nothing but a good book and a long afternoon ahead […]

Dylann Crush

You ever have that feeling that something is just starting, you’ve barely dipped your toe into the water and then suddenly, one blink, a wave jumps, and you’re submerged. Suddenly, you’re floating in the middle of the lake and you only meant to get your feet wet.

That’s summer this year. It just started and it’s half over. I’m sitting dead center of the lake, unsure how I got here or what to do now. Do I lie back and float in the sun, swim to shore and dry off, or venture to the other side and explore?

I kind of want to do all three. Having moved at the end of June, we’ve been navigating our way around Ikea boxes and rubber maid bins as we try to settle into a new normal. In a few weeks, we’ll get to enjoy the sunshine of California and all that is Disneyland. For now, I’m reading/editing/writing. So in a sense, I guess I am doing all three.

I had plans for the summer…ones that included frequent and long bouts of laziness. Even though we have been busy and it has gone fast, you’ll be happy to know I have really pulled through in that area. Mornings that start at 10 a.m. with a bottle of diet pepsi and a great view are good ones. There have also been ones that start with banging and whirring of my basement being worked on, but I can’t complain since it means I’ll be getting a beautiful office very soon.

As I near the end of this, I realize, I’ve told you absolutely nothing. And when I say that, I also realize, maybe that’s the best kind of summer…the ones that have a lot of nothing broken up by a few somethings.

I better get back to it. Even lazy– if you want to be good at it– takes some effort and time management.
