You ever have that feeling that something is just starting, you’ve barely dipped your toe into the water and then suddenly, one blink, a wave jumps, and you’re submerged. Suddenly, you’re floating in the middle of the lake and you only meant to get your feet wet.

That’s summer this year. It just started and it’s half over. I’m sitting dead center of the lake, unsure how I got here or what to do now. Do I lie back and float in the sun, swim to shore and dry off, or venture to the other side and explore?

I kind of want to do all three. Having moved at the end of June, we’ve been navigating our way around Ikea boxes and rubber maid bins as we try to settle into a new normal. In a few weeks, we’ll get to enjoy the sunshine of California and all that is Disneyland. For now, I’m reading/editing/writing. So in a sense, I guess I am doing all three.

I had plans for the summer…ones that included frequent and long bouts of laziness. Even though we have been busy and it has gone fast, you’ll be happy to know I have really pulled through in that area. Mornings that start at 10 a.m. with a bottle of diet pepsi and a great view are good ones. There have also been ones that start with banging and whirring of my basement being worked on, but I can’t complain since it means I’ll be getting a beautiful office very soon.

As I near the end of this, I realize, I’ve told you absolutely nothing. And when I say that, I also realize, maybe that’s the best kind of summer…the ones that have a lot of nothing broken up by a few somethings.

I better get back to it. Even lazy– if you want to be good at it– takes some effort and time management.

Finding Your Freaking Balance 2

“Find your balance.” Sounds like something a wise spiritual adviser or life coach would say. No problem. I’m sure my balance is hiding under the covers where my kid stashed two boxes of granola bars and has been binging on chocolate and oats for the past two nights. (Did I mention […]

A bookish Mother’s Day 3

I was struggling with what to chat about today– sometimes my brain feels like it went on a spur of the moment vacation. Realizing it’s Mother’s Day this week made think…hmm, know what I’d like? To curl into my brand new mattress with all of my cozy pillows and my […]

Kristen Callihan’s Idol 1

Courtney and Romance Chick, Christina, love to chat about books. This post is about Kristen Callihan’s VIP Series. (It’s about ROCKSTARS!) Note: This post contains lots of spoilers. If you haven’t read the book and you’re like Courtney and hate being spoiled, stop reading now! On the other hand, if you’re […]

The rest of the alphabet! 1

Finally, right? I’m sure you’ve been barely balancing on the edge of your seats wondering what I have on my bookshelf between the letters R-Z. And as I just realized that’s a LOT of letters all at once and also because (shameless plug) I have a book release tomorrow, I’m […]
