My One Advise to Debut Authors

Navigating the world of publishing as a debut author is exciting, but it can also be a bit overwhelming. The best advice I can give a new author is to find other authors who can relate to what transpires after one signs a publishing contract.

I was fortunate enough to find such a group in Authors18. The group is comprised of debut authors who write either adult or new adult fiction novels that will be published this year. We have become a support system to each other. We can ask questions and get answers. We can share news when something fantastic happens. We recently had a member mentioned in The New York Times, another was on Good Morning America, and just this past week a member shared the news that a movie production company purchased the rights to her book. But we celebrate everyone’s successes both big and small.

However, it’s not always good news, so we lean on each other when things don’t go as one hoped or expected. We’ve had members who’ve found out their publication dates have been moved back, and members whose editors have left their publisher. There’s been ups and downs, but as a group, we have banded together to offer support to one another.

So, if you are a debut author my one advice to you is to find your peeps! You will cherish them as you go through the steps that will bring your book to publication.  Many will become friends and confidants, people who will always be connected to you because of this shared experience.

You can find out more about the group and the stories we write at, and below are some of our June releases, including my second book. 🙂

Also, join us on June 18 for a Facebook party!
