The one where Courtney and Christina discuss their favorite series… 8

Courtney and Romance Chick, Christina, love to chat about books. Today, to distract ourselves from the election we’ve decided to have a discussion about our favorite book series.

Sit back, grab a cocktail (or a Coke) and join in on a chat about all things books.

Christina: To start, since Courtney and I have been on a bit of a motorcycle club bender, I figured we’d both tell our favorite MC series. (P.S. Of the two of us, only one has actual MC experience. Hint: It’s not me.)

Courtney: Hahaha, you would bring that up. It was a brief wild period in my early 20’s. I regret nothing.

Favorite Motorcycle Club Series

Courtney: MC romance is one of my favorites. Picking just one series is impossible for me. As we’ve discussed before, Lauren Gilley’s Lean Dogs are some of my favorite books. However, Kristen Ashley’s Chaos series was the first MC series I read and they are also amazing. #Tackforever

Christina: Courtney was the one who introduced me to Kristen Ashley. Our first series we read, or she pushed on me, was the Dream Man series. It was a grrrrrrreat series and it ended with a MC President called Tack. He ended up launching his own series, the Chaos series.

I’m going to go with that as my favorite because of, well, nostalgia for one. And, also, the boys of Chaos are fun and not too intense.

Now, as we discussed in our last post, I loved the Lean Dog’s series by Lauren Gilley. I’ve actually finished that series now, and I can say whooo whoa, it leaves you with an intense series hangover. The writing is phenomenal and the issues are wicked deep. They really gut you in a totally different way than the romances of Chaos.

Also, here’s a gratuitous gif of Jax from Sons of Anarchy. Because… when you think MC, you think Jax Teller.

Courtney: Chaos is not all light hearted fun though. Walk Through Fire made me cry like a teething baby, just inconsolable. It was so good though that I would recommend that book to everyone I know.

Christina: To me, it made me cry and gutted me in a different way. It was a relationship way. In Lean Dogs it was more of a, Holy Crap that happened to them!

Courtney: This is true. Two completely different series, both excellent.

Favorite Rock Star Series

Screen Shot 2016-11-06 at 7.24.09 PMCourtney: This one is easy for me. Although I love rock star books so much right now, Kylie Scott’s Stage Dive series is the golden standard for me here. Mal is one of my favorite book boyfriends.

Christina: Totally agree on this point. When you say rock star series, I immediately go to the Stage Dive series by Kylie Scott. I, however, liked David more than Mal. But personal preference and all that. There’s this one scene in David’s book when he goes to get Evie and they’re in Portland on a drizzly street and she says, “Why are you here?”

And he replies something like, “Because my wife lives in Portland.”

(p.s. Evie and him got married in like the first ten pages of the book.)

That scene just makes me go… oh. Every. Single. Time.

Courtney: I should mention here though that Kristen Callihan released one of my favorite rock star romance books of the year with Idol and I am eagerly anticipating the release of the second in that series this month. They may overtake the lead for best rock star books for me.

Christina: I’ll add in that Kristen Ashley is talking about a spin off for Mace and Stella (she’s a rockstar in the Rock Chicks books). If/when that happens I think it’ll give serious pause to my favorite rock star series.

Favorite Paranormal Series

Christina: I’m gonna go old school on this one and head straight toward Twilight. I mean, come on… Edward and Jacob and the angsty Bella? I go straight there. #TeamJacob

Courtney: No. Just heck no. So many fantastic options! Christina Dodd, Darkness Chosen. With this kind of description, how can you go wrong?

Screen Shot 2016-11-06 at 7.23.41 PM“A thousand years ago, a brutal warrior roamed the Russian steppes. Driven by his craving for power, Konstantine struck a terrible bargain. In return for the ability to change at will into a cold-hearted predator, he promised his soul, and the souls of his descendants, to the devil. Then one day a dangerous prophecy reveals the truth: one family has been chosen to battle the darkness — or face damnation.”

(Note: I actually named my son after one of the heroes in this series.)

Christina:Okay, first. Whoa. Because you’ve NEVER told me of this series until RIGHT NOW. Second, well, there’s no second. But I had a first. So, had to add a second.

Courtney:I have totally mentioned it before. Possibly just in passing, but when we were discussing what the baby’s name was going to be, I’m sure I mentioned it. You should read it. Right now.

Christina: I totally just added that to my TBR pile.

Courtney: As should everyone who has not yet read it.

Favorite Cowboy Series

Christina: I’m going to go Maisey Yates’ Copper Ridge series. BUT I would say it’s tied with Joan Johnston’s Bitter Creek series. I love that series. I love both those series. Very different feels, but they’ve got some niiiiiiiice cowboy action in them.

Courtney: This one is tough for me.  I’m not big into cowboys, although a long, long time ago, I read through my grandfather’s entire Western collection.  No romance in there though hahaha.  I’m going to come back to this one…*pauses forever*  After much internal debate, I’m going old school on this one.  Johanna Lindsey, who is one of my favorite historical romance authors from way back when I first started reading romance, wrote a two book series about the Straton family.  It’s more “Western” than “cowboy,” but that’s my pick.

Favorite “Other” Series

Christina: Rock Chick definitely stands the test of time for me. And, if we go outside of romance there’s the whole Harry Potter phase that I went through. I also seriously enjoyed The Hunger Games (back in the day before they were movies and everything).

CoScreen Shot 2016-11-06 at 7.27.02 PMurtney: I love Rock Chick too. But if we’re going for outstanding series that isn’t necessarily romance, it’s always going to be Outlander. My God, those books are just indescribably good. If you haven’t read them yet, stop now, click here and start.

Christina: I feel like I should lose my readership card because I DIDN’T mention OUTLANDER. OMG.

I also didn’t mention the Chicago Stars series by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Shame on moi.

Courtney: Oh, Chicago Stars is so good! It Had To Be You is one of my most frequently re-read books.

Christina: If we’re going to go sports romance series though. I also adore the Elle Kennedy’s Off-Campus series. Those books are da bomb.

Courtney: Elle Kennedy and Kristen Callihan both have such good college sports romance series. Both very solid contenders for top sports romance series.

Christina: There you have it. Those are some of our favorite series. What are yours?

Courtney: Any and all of these guaranteed to distract you from your Election Day woes. And please, please share your favorites with us so that I too can escape into a good new story!
